Character
Name: Raine Kusanagi
Gender: Female
Age: Somewhere around 25, she stopped counting.
Physical Appearance: Raine stands around 5'6", has hazel eyes, and shoulder-length black hair. Her most identifying feature, however, is her left eye: it's missing. In its place, her eyelid on that side has been scarred over. There are roughly four or 5 lines of hypertrophic scarring sealing it shut. She almost always wears a black eyepatch to cover this fact up.
In the way of clothes, Raine happens to have a cotton shirt, but it's very worn and ripping in places. She has a black plastic chest plate for armour. Her pants are well-worn leather. The knives she uses to both hunt and fight with are strapped in small holsters and are hidden beneath her chest plate. She wears a pair of plain black leather gloves. Her boots are very worn grey (formerly white) leather motorcycle boots with straps to close them. There's a hidden holster inside of her left boot that conceals another knife. A defining piece of clothing she has is a grey wolf pelt she wears as a cloak. It's not nearly as worn as the rest of her clothes, however, showing its age.
UF History: Before the downfall of society, Raine lived a somewhat troubled life. She came from a somewhat poor family and wasn't too healthy when she was a child. She was rendered infertile due to a condition known as Müllerian agenesis. While she did have corrective surgery to fix what could be done, she has never had a period and can never bear children. This was not an ideal outcome, as her parents were ashamed of their daughter for this. They never disowned her, but they weren't exactly warm towards her, either. This caused her emotional development to be somewhat stunted and to be apathetic towards the world. She was, however, always warm towards animals, especially the dog she was given as a child. The dog was simply named "Mutt" and was of no specific breed. He went where ever she did.
When the city she lived in started experiencing the panics and shortages for oil, Raine was just 15. Her parents started to hoard oil, ending up with several barrels. As the oil all but ran out around them, they still had these small pieces of hope...Until one of the street gangs found out. They rather brutally killed Raine's parents while she was out...along with her beloved dog. With little left for her in the looted and ruined city, the still young, but jaded girl set out.
She had taught herself to drive a car before and stole an abandoned sedan. Having managed to keep one of the barrels of fuel, she was able to keep the car running for quite awhile. That fuel ran out, however, and in a terrible place known for attacks by a gang of thugs known as Marauders. Being alone, a woman, and without much protection other than the knives she had on her meant she was an easy target. They came about two days after she ran out of fuel and she was attacked. She had her left eye gouged out and then the eyelid and empty socket were sliced across with a knife, she was beaten, raped, and left for dead in the desert. With enough sense to wait until the Marauders left, she put what was left of her clothing back on and passed out in the shadow of her car.
Awaking to the sound of footsteps and hand on her, she was discovered by a small man with unnaturally green eyes and white blond hair. She was in too much pain to move very much and, aside from a harsh noise from her throat, couldn't speak. The man was amused at the fact she was still alive and decided to take her with him. When she questioned just why he didn't kill her, the response she got was odd: because she lived. Because she survived such a vicious attack, he wanted to see what she would do with the "new" life she was given. He said he would protect her and keep her alive until the question of just what she would do with this opportunity was answered. She didn't pretend to understand what he meant. She didn't question it, either. He seemed a bit unbalanced, but who wasn't in the world at the time? She learned his name was Haikiri and he couldn't remember where he came from, why he was named that, or anything about his life.
Raine survived the ordeal, mostly thanks to Haikiri's protection. She was now scarred and even more hardened towards the world. She had gotten something valuable out of the experience, however, and that was someone to rely on, even if it were only temporary. She still didn't trust her new companion completely, though, and their partnership was strained at times.
With a new resolve, she was able to procure another car. This one, however, was not the basic family sedan she had before. No, no, they got lucky when they happened upon a wreck. They discovered a black Charger, slightly customized, that had run out of fuel and the driver had abandoned it. Still having some precious juice left, Raine was able to get the car moving. Later, in trade for her services as a bodyguard, she was able to have a custom decal painted on the hood, as well as a front scoop and some other minor modifications done to it.
She had heard rumours of a valley where there was actual civilization trying to reform. At first, she scoffed at the information, thinking anyone trying to rebuild in an area as infested with Marauders as that valley was. Later, though, risking the danger, she decided to go. There was one town in particular that needed mercenaries to help protect the town and, supposedly, in trade for the services, they would received water, food, and even fuel. That offer was too good to pass up. She and Haikiri traveled to Clotho to offer their services to the people there.
Personality: Raine, in general, is very apathetic towards other people. Her only concern is for her wellbeing, for Haikiri's wellbeing, and for her car. She tends to regard everyone with distrust until they show a reason for her to trust them, as that's how the world has shaped her. She has no patience for small children and tends to get rather annoyed with them. She, however, has a strong affinity for animals, mainly canines. She's sarcastic and snarky and generally described as a bitch.
When faced with a challenge, she'll usually tackle it head on. She'll think while she's working at it. Unfortunately, if she gets frustrated, she tends to give up or get angry. If she gets angry (extremely so), she lashes out violently at anything that happens to be nearby (usually her car).
Strengths: She's fast and quick-witted. She can think on her feet with little trouble. She also doesn't invest much emotion in her decisions, allowing her to think rationally. She is an excellent bluffer and can, at times, talk her way out of a situation. She is also very skilled at close quarters combat due to traveling with Haikiri for so long (they trained out of boredom). She also knows basic car repair.
Weaknesses: She is somewhat small. She's easy to knock around if you can get a hold of her. Haikiri is also a weakness, considering how close they are. If someone were to threaten him, she would willingly die to protect him. Since she has had some extremely bad run-ins, her temper can get the better of her in extremely tense situations. She also tends to just act out violently when cornered.
Settlement choice: Clotho
Specialty: Mercenary.
Vehicle: A black 1968 Dodge Charger. There is a custom-painted snarling wolf on the hood. It has a few modifications made to it, notably four fitted pipes on either side of the front end behind the tires and a metal scoop. It's been raised off the ground, so she can take it off-road easier. There is also a small (about 5 gallon) barrel of gas in the rear that is rigged to explode if someone tries to steal it (similar to the trap on Max's car). Also similar to Max's car, there's a knife in a sheath attached to the frame near the rear driver's side tire.
Possessions: Black plastic chest armour, three hunting knives in small leather holsters, her grey wolf pelt, and a small telescope. She has something incredibly precious, as well - a small barrel of gas that she guards with her life.
